Live Like Laura Foundation
A scholarship founded in loving memory of our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Laura Schrankler.
On July 14, 2022 our perfectly healthy daughter, sister, and sister in-law Laura Schrankler, had a cardiac arrest at 25 years of age. A few days later, on July 19th, Laura passed away from complications of that cardiac arrest. Laura was perfectly healthy. She was a multi-sport athlete, marathon runner and had just completed running Grandma’s Marathon a few weeks earlier. Our worlds were turned upside down; family, friends and the community were shocked.
Laura (like her siblings) went to South Washington County Schools for grades K-12. Laura then went to the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated with a Degree in Speech and Communications Disorders. She then proceeded to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and received a Masters degree in Speech and Communication Disorders. Laura was hired by South Washington County Schools to serve as a Speech Pathologist at Hillside Elementary. She loved her students and co-workers. A big part of Laura's life was shaped by experiences, connections, and activities during her school years at Park High School. She made connections with people of all different backgrounds and also connected people to each other. Many of her connections during Kindergarten through college were made possible by participating in sports, clubs, volunteering, church, and other activities. She had a magnetic personality, was always on the go, and is often described by family and friends as joyful. She lived a life of faith and loved the Lord. People who knew Laura, knew how she spread her joy. Thousands of hours of service have been completed and continue to be completed in her name.
As a way to continue to spread Laura’s joy and commitment to connecting people, family and friends founded the “Live Like Laura Foundation” a 501(c)(3). One of the goals is to provide an annual scholarship(s) to Park Seniors. The name of the scholarship is the “Live Like Laura Foundation Scholarship”. The scholarship will be awarded to a Park senior(s) who not only demonstrates a strong commitment to academics, but also demonstrates the ability to foster connections among their peers and actively participates in school athletics, clubs and other activities. We ask that all of you continue to Live Like Laura and spread her joy.
To encourage others to live like Laura by providing scholarships to High School Seniors attending a 2 or 4-year post-secondary school. Recipient(s) exhibit strong academic achievements and demonstrate the ability to foster connections among peers and actively participate in school athletics, clubs, & other activities.
